Hi! My name is Sarahe (SAIR-uh-ee) you can also call me Miss. Roman.
I'm an artist based in Long Beach, Ca. where I live and work with my fur daughter, Harley. I was born and raised in Los Angeles where I developed my aesthetic as an artist. I have several years of experience in commercial arts and fine arts.
Before my teacher life I worked for a fashion company in downtown LA designing for brands like Buckle, Boot Barn, Harley-Davidson and Ross. After my experience in commercial arts I took a chance in the fine arts world where I participated in several group art shows with other talented individuals. My passion for the arts landed me in a place where I would eventually become inspired to teach young people. My work in foster care opened my world to a different path in the arts, one that created so much meaning, and where I made significant connections. Although my spirit was challenged on a daily basis, I knew that this was something I wanted to continue learning. Not only learn about myself but about the impact a safe creative space can have on an individual.
After leaving my position as the Arts and Recreation supervisor during the pandemic, I made the decision at 36 years young to go back to school at CSULB and get a teaching credential in Art. My first year as a teacher was bittersweet, I connected with so many incredible kids and unfortunately experienced what many first year teachers should never go through. One of my students passed away two months before the end of the school year and it changed my perspective on life. I'm so thankful that I was able to connect with him and see his creative talents before he left us. I hope to honor him this year for our Day of the Dead events and keep connecting with the amazing and talented students in my class this year.
<3 Miss. Roman
